I hardcore played each patch until I got near-perfect or perfect gear. The pinnacle period without a doubt was 4.0-4.7. Most fulfilling end-game PvE back then. Consider how many sets you could farm for the big fights; Ancient Coin, Lunatic Modor (Runadium), Sauro Commander, Bastion set, Brazen Aegis (IO/RST), and Hyperion.. Six incredible sets to work from five distinct instances, not to mention tackling Danuar Mysticarium (sillus solo instance), Silona instance (void cube), Pradeth (anyone do this?:)), steel rose, and other stuff. PvP was thrilling too, open-world blood mark camps had players active throughout day and night.. Kamar and EOB added to PvP alongside all the arenas and dredge.. So much content.
1.5 - 1.9.. Hard pass. Content was limited, sieges had irregular times initially iirc. I remember grinding a quest where you slay 49 calydon mobs for 10 platinum coins.. Rinse and repeat for 2,000 coins.. Or defeat guards/enemy to earn AP gear. Dark poeta and steel rake were the endgame.. Grogget was nearly unkillable and DP hardly gave gold items. Honestly, out of about 30 runs I recall seeing two gold items drop, and runs stretched forever with everyone decked in blue gear at level 50.
2.0-2.7.. Arena release in 2.7 was neat. Land sieges were a blast but trekking between gelk/inggison was torture. Even if you placed kisk wisely, dying before it was awkward, like a forgotten step. It wasn’t WoW-long flights/runs but took ages to re-enter PvP, and Silentera was generally vacant due to irrelevance.. Making Silentera like tiamaranta eye would’ve been stellar. Beshanteer was end-game, fond memories but I can't go back, tried another private server, and it's now too easy, not as enjoyable. One superior end-game instance vs 4.0’s eight (or at least six). You could run udas, but not really end-game, mostly solo player's patch. Roll a cleric, solo bosses, sell loot rights. Short-man/solo Esoterrace for AP.. Nope, solo play isn't my style anymore, 4.0 promotes group play. Skills got more vibrant and interesting this patch.
3.0-3.5 vision
Decent changes. Tia eye was exhilarating.. many whined on zerging in the eye, yet it was one of Aion’s best evolutions. Packed solid rewards into a sizable arena letting players go wild on each other. Recall countless ganks while on a keymaster, good times nabbing loot from foes (sometimes from your faction too). End-game getting hotter.. gained three end-game instances over one (Rentus, Tiamat Stronghold, DLR). Though Rentus, imo, was utter disaster, weapons remained appealing making it worth running (plus a mount could drop). Great PvP, decent PvE, perpetual sieges!
4.0-4.7. Won’t repeat prior thoughts, but immense potential for both PvE and PvP. 4.8 wasn’t tragic, removal of katalam and danaria upset many due to their charm, but it was understandable. Intention was a condensed map (Levinshor/Kaldor) easing PvP encounters. Made sense, though adjusting bloodmark camps errors occurred; many classes couldn’t solo (or do so effectively) these camps, pushing group co-op unnecessarily when at times players aim to hop in and tackle goals.. Danuar mysticarium (sillus instance) worsened this patch, yet Linkgate foundry (new solo) entered. Not great, yet not awful either. Plume’s introduction and +20 enchanting are least favoured in these versions. Power creep with every new Aion version through added items, enchant methods.. In 4.8 +20 attainable.. Why? +15 sufficed (even +10). Or engaging gear gave +1 attack, +4 magic boost in 4.8.. Ridiculous power gap between players enchanting to +15 and those who couldn’t manage (even in PvE). Overall, 4.6 stands out most reputable patch in Aion’s timeline.
5.0 terrible, but surpassed 6 and 7
6.0 absolute mess
7.0 Haven't experienced, yet anticipate as poor as 6.0
