My idea is kinda straightforward; just remove the option to obtain tempering solutions on this server.
When 4.x rolled out, it introduced an insane gear ceiling that scares away new players. Nobody's interested in getting demolished repeatedly by someone in full maxed-out gear, max tempered, with a +10 plume while just trying to grind for BM gear. It's impossible to fight back and ultimately detracts from the overall enjoyment.
To work toward best-in-slot gear, +15 enhancements, and a complete set of blue manastones is sufficient for character progress in this game. Tempering really affects the casual player base in a negative way.
I've been playing since version 1.5, and I can confidently say the peak PvP activity in this game occurred when the gear cap was much lower (like in versions 2.5 to 3.0) -- the moment the gear ceiling dramatically increased (with blue manastones, plumes, tempering accessories), PvP shifted from skill-based to gear-dependent, driving many players to quit.
However, I've been a part of the Aion Riftshade beta and it approaches things so differently. There’s no pay-to-win gimmick, and casuals aren't outranked by gear. They've really balanced the classes and focused on PvP being skill-oriented rather than gear-focused. With Aion Riftshade launching in Q1 2026, it might just be the fresh start many players need.
