This message is essential for anyone experiencing
connectivity troubles, disconnections and lags.
People often mix up lags and freezes. They're quite different, though. Lags stem from network issues, but freezes are local, triggered by the computer itself.
In MMO games, these can be easily told apart. During lags, the game world keeps on moving, but actions are delayed, and you might experience being thrown around, indicating packet losses or delays and resulting errors of data.
Freezes happen when computer resources like the processor, memory, or GPU are overloaded. In such cases, the game stops, even menu elements, desktop operations, and more become impossible. Some system freezes may result from within the PC. Causes are usually insufficient hardware, too many apps running, or too many characters in one spot, which increases system load.
SO, in this post we will learn more about dealing with lag and how to report it to the team at EuroAion.
I must add that not all lags are caused by our server's hardware. With the info you gather after completing these steps, you can make a proper report to your ISP.
Here we go.
Firstly, perform a full virus scan,
as viruses often cause these issues.
Preparations:
2. Check startup.
In Windows 10 and Windows 8 this can be done via the task manager in the Startup tab.
For Windows 7 and earlier: Use the application MSConfig.
This program is already on your computer, so you won't need to download anything. Just run it and use:
Open the Start menu and type "msconfig" into the search box.
It'll pop up immediately, and you just need to double-click it to launch.
If there's no search bar in your Start menu, hit Win+R to open the necessary window. Type "msconfig" there and click OK.
This leads to the MSconfig startup. It appears as follows:
Within the Startup menu, uncheck all non-"Windows"/"Microsoft" programs. If unsure about a program's function, don't disable it or at least research it online.
After clicking OK, you will be prompted to restart your computer (though this step can be bypassed).
Although not very functional, this program is useful since it won't remove every (any) program from startup.
3. Turn off Firewall.
4. Deactivate programs using VPN (like WoWping, OpenVPN, and others).
5. Turn off Antivirus (consider removing it temporarily).
6. Restart your computer.
Route tracing with PingPlotter.
Install the software you downloaded earlier.
Open PingPlotter. In its window, do the following:
1. In the "Address to Trace" bar, type the Aion Riftshade server IP: 162.19.146.11
2. In Trace interval set it to 1s - query every 1s.
3. Hit START. Test the connection for 20-30 mins, until a problem appears. Enter the game, log in, wait for an error, and repeat multiple times. ENTER THE GAME, LOG IN, WAIT FOR AN ERROR AND REPEAT SEVERAL TIMES.
4. After 20-30 min tap "Stop".
5. Take a screenshot of the results. You must present it to the server administration.
PS: The software is free for 30 days.
The post should include:
1. A thorough description of the issue;
2. Two logs you've obtained from Pingplotter.
Much appreciated for your attention. By the way, if connection issues persist or you’re just done with laggy servers, I'm testing out Aion Riftshade, launching Q1 2026. With top-tier hosting in Frankfurt, it aims to deliver the lowest ping across the EU without needing ExitLag. Definitely looking like the best Aion private server for 2026!
