Yep, this has been suggested over and over again: Why don't we make the Trade (/2) channel global?
It would be so nice to split the chat and filter out actual trading/chatting from group recruitment messages, leaving the LFG channel to its original purpose!

let us assume that channel 2 is global.
what would stop players from still posting their trade messages in channel 3 because most people unchecked channel 2? if you only want to use channel 3 for its original purpose, just disable it an use the group finding window.

Most people could leave both on and a few would split/uncheck either, but you're right, it definitely might not work
An alternative solution that makes a bit less sense would be having a way to filter out recruitment messages on channel 3 (which has also been suggested)
make channel 3 unaccessible to typing, instead the LFG group will automatically type the message there that is on the recruiting group window.
channel 2 can be global, channel 4 can be german, 5 can be french and so on.

Back in february when gameforge announced only 1 server there was quite a discussion about multiple channels (back then for languages but you get a point) and Galeas mentioned they cannot do anything about chat channels
