The PvP infrastructure in Lineage 2's olympiad was quite an intriguing setup;
it featured an arena where participants could register for battles in instance rooms, with options for "same class" or "mixed choice" entries. Victors would earn some of the losers' score ratings for the week.
Upon period completion, the top player of each class earned the hero title, enjoyed a perpetual glow, had access to hero weapons, gained specialized buffs through skills, and received a powerful offensive ability.
Participants could also exchange their olympiad passes, awarded for each victory, for unique rewards.
Though the system was mostly fair in retail, private servers often saw win-trading abuses, reflecting both ups and downs. Despite that, like many NCsoft creations, it was INCREDIBLY FUN TO JOIN. I fondly recall the matches I participated in, where matchups varied based on registrants, akin to current systems.
When I first considered this training dummy DPS idea, I had a limited view of the mechanism but believed it had potential, mostly due to uncertainty about Gameforge’s capabilities.
Here’s a bit more detail.
The concept I envisioned involves a competition (though I’m unsure how Gameforge might implement it), potentially involving instance creation or a GM overseeing with a DPS meter and stopwatch. Ideally, they could collaborate with NCsoft developers to create a dummy that logs damage and showcases top class performers.
Ultimately, the dummy would announce "CHAMPIONS," awarding special titles with rewards permissible by NCsoft, on a biweekly reset to encourage player engagement.
Of course, I share this idea openly, giving up any claims to it, and encourage anyone (NCSOFT, GAMEFORGE, here's a shoutout), to take it and turn it into something entertaining.
