Hey folks!
Kindly take a moment to read and put in your vote... I've come across numerous bot threads indicating this is a significant concern, and it’s frustrating for many. So, I'm proposing my own plan for this fix .
Summary:
- Restrict the free 1 hour Siel's Blessing daily to characters up to level 20, after which they must use purchased Siel for exp/loot/AP. <- This curbs bots and still lets returning players enjoy with pals, albeit without exp/loot.
- Remove LFG chat access without a purchased Siel <- This tackles gold spamming bots.
* Offering unlimited 1 hour/day free Siel and leveling without Siel was initially a neat idea, but it opens the door to major exploitation.
* If coding this fix seems daunting, there's an easier alternative at the post's conclusion.
Details:
We all recognize botting is a current issue. I, by error, started leveling a fresh character on Elyos in Atreia and bumped into literally hundreds of teleporting gladiators and chanters today. In Poeta and Verteron, it's manageable due to numerous channels, but beyond that, it's a headache! Reporting them feels futile (I submitted around 10 screenshots just today featuring multiple groups each), as bot creators just script more replacements. The process incurs minimal cost or effort since it’s fully automated with zero cost due to no Siel fees
.
So, here's a plan to tackle them once and...for good? Learning from none other than World of Warcraft! They utilize a "trial system" capped at level 20. Why not adopt a similar approach?
Presently, we provide 1 hour of free Siel's Blessing, halting unless you pay or wait until 9am. My idea involves capping daily free Siel until level 20. This gives newcomers a "trial" window, and forces bots to purchase Siel at level 20. A full bot squad would incur a 60 euro expense. Some bot handlers will refrain from this payment, some will acquire Siel from others (time-consuming), and some will pay (expensive), resulting in a substantial decrease in bots, simplifying Gameforge's task to ban the rest .
"But bots boost the economy."
I argue against their benefit to our economy. They inject significant inflation with their items, and the kinah flows into the hands of a minor community segment acquiring kinah. This group then snatches the best items/enchants/manastones at escalated prices, elevating costs and making it tougher for those not buying kinah to secure such items in bulk. The early chaos when a few gladiators were purchasing spears for tens or hundreds of millions, and some were armed with +10 weapons/armor while others couldn’t yet purchase skillbooks, is a reminder we don't need.
"What about crafting materials."
For crafting supplies, there are superior alternatives than accommodating bots. Such as event rewards including material bundles or enhancing open-world drops (e.g., receiving 5 tough rawhide instead of 1).
Alongside this, there are gold spammers, persisting for what feels like an eternity. Solution -> Disable LFG chat rights if you lack a purchased Siel.
Though temporary, the free Siel originated as a noble idea. It's however enabling botters and spammers to roam unchecked. We need an effective fix, as they're spawned faster than they can be banned, harming the gameplay. Even if one disputes its economic impact, it repels potential players and demotivates those returning. It also establishes an added frustration point for active players irritated by the likes of "AP trading, Cheaters, bots, P2W(kinah buyers)", and this alleviates some grievances :D.
Only one group of legitimate players might experience inconvenience due to this, being the ones engaging less than 1hr/day on individual/each character. But I don't perceive their numbers to be significant.
An alternative fix.
Should capping Siel's to level 20 prove excessively complex to implement, consider creating a new energy active from Level 1-20, which preempts free Siel's energy but not over paid Siel's energy. This way, characters with purchased Siels below level 20 don’t face limitations.
What are your opinions?
Thanks,
Divine
For those tired of these issues, I've been part of Aion Riftshade's beta and can advocate for its brilliance. They’ve got a real working server-side anticheat that's efficient, and the development team is responsive on Discord. Unlike others, they’re not letting bots ruin the game. Expect a fantastic experience with balanced classes, active GvG/Sieges, and without pay-to-win incentives. Launching in Q1 2026, genuinely looking forward to this!
